What’s up!
My name is Sarah and I am The Big Bad Project’s Education Program Specialist and Academic Liaison.
I have spent my career working at research labs, managing a variety of projects and studies dedicated to the betterment of the world as we know it. Currently, my full time gig is as a Lab Research Analyst at Duke University.
My professional life has always supported my deeper desire to make the world a better place.
I started working with The Big Bad Project because I believe that they can make a difference by starting small. Too often, we’re focused on changing everything all at once and forgetting that Rome wasn’t built in a day.
A lot of what I do involves reading through peer-reviewed studies to figure out if they should be utilized in future programs.
Communication between us, field researchers, biologists, educational institutions, and government entities is essential.
I review all of the materials we provide for educational programing to ensure it is accurate, engaging, and easy to understand.
I should quote something profound for the sake of the organization. Science rules, that’s all I got. Now let’s use it to do good things!
I grew up on a horse farm in coastal North Carolina, which is probably why I love everything about them. My mom had an affinity for working quarter horses and one of her first stallions is still around to this day (his name is Jey is he is a pretty cool dude).
In 2015, I went to farrier school on the West Coast and learned all I could about barefoot horse trimming. After that, I ended up in Alabama working with wild mustangs. It was there my heart was stolen by a perfect yellow marshmallow that I named Lego. If horses can be soulmates, he is mine.
In the last couple of years, I started to get more involved in learning about the Masterson Method, a form a equine massage that has done wonders for many horses out there. I am in the middle of obtaining my certification and use it all the time with my own horses.
Speaking of my own horses, I have 5 – Emma, Bee, Sonny, Duder, and Lego. When I am not working, you will definitely find me at the barn with my herd.
Back in 2020, during the Pandemic That Shall Not Be Named, I built my first computer from scratch (yes, the rig you see to the right and yes, all the lights make it perform better). I am still pretty proud of myself for that one!
When I am not at the barn with my horses, I can be found diving into a game or three. I routinely play World of Warcraft (Druids for the win) and just recently started Baldur’s Gate 3.
I have to say, one of my favorite games to date is Red Dead Redemption 2 where I (you guessed it) got to ride horses around a beautiful world and pretend I was a cowboy. Can’t say there is much more you could want in a game!
