What Is Rewriting the Wild?
Rewriting the Wild is an interactive workshop that helps writers explore the power of storytelling and the role it plays in shaping how people view wildlife and wild places. Participants learn to analyze the stories that have been told about nature, recognize the real-world impacts those narratives create, and develop new stories that replace outdated myths with more positive, lasting perspectives. The program not only encourages writers to use their voices to influence how we see and value the wild things and places around us, but provides them with the skills to do it.
Who Can Request a Workshop?
Workshops are open and available to schools, universities, community groups, and writing collectives, as well as individual educators or organizers who want to bring new perspectives on wildlife storytelling to their audience.
How Long Are Workshops?
Rewriting the Wild workshops are designed to be flexible. Most sessions run 60–90 minutes, but we can adapt the format for half-day or multi-session experiences depending on the needs of your group.
How Does It Work?
Fill out the request form with details about your group, goals, and preferred timing. Once submitted, our team will review your request and reach out to discuss how we can tailor the workshop to your needs.
What Should I Expect After Submitting The Form?
You’ll receive a confirmation that your request was received. Within a short time, a member of our team will follow up with additional information, discuss customization options, and finalize next steps.
Is There A Cost To Host A Workshop?
Our priority is to keep Rewriting the Wild accessible to as many communities as possible. There is no set fee, but generally virtual programs average $500-$800 depending on complexity and organizational needs. If your budget is limited, let us know and we’ll work together to find a way forward.
Do You Offer Free Workshops?
Yes, for eligible institutions such as Title I schools and other organizations serving communities with limited access to resources. Availability depends on funding through foundations and outside sources, so free workshops cannot always be guaranteed. We recommend filling out the request form so we can determine eligibility and explore what’s possible. If funding is not available at the time, we’ll place your group on a waitlist and follow up when support opens up.
Do Participants Have Opportunities To Share Their Work?
Yes. Workshop participants are invited to submit their writing to The Revision, our in-house publication that highlights new voices and fresh perspectives on wildlife and wild places. Submissions from workshop participants are free, giving writers a direct pathway to amplify their work and contribute to the cultural conversation. Writers whose work is selected for publication are also compensated, ensuring their contributions are valued and supported.
