Our Hearts Are Heavy

We lost Wyatt a couple of weeks ago. She was with those she cared about most in her enclosure, passing quietly with us on a peaceful afternoon.

It took a while to make this post on our site for several reasons, but mostly because every time we started to write things down, we’d have to stop. None of this seems real, and none of this makes any sense.

Wyatt was just 4 years old. Unfortunately, illnesses don’t care. When they strike, they sometimes do so without warning, and without providing very much time to process what is happening.

Thankfully, it wasn’t an instant tragic loss, and our team did have a chance to discuss her illness and make the right decisions. Does it make it hurt less? Of course not, but it did give us a chance to say goodbye.

Ambassador Tiberius is notably sad, but we had him present during her passing. He seemed to have genuinely understood what was happening, saying his own goodbyes and grieving in his own way. We think it will take a long time before we are all able to say that we’re doing okay. Even then, our hearts will never be whole.

When we announced her passing on socials, there was an outpouring of love and support. We appreciate it more than we really have words for.

Thank you for loving her, and thank you for letting us share her.
