This is a post we’ve been dreading, but it’s time to share so that we can move forward and focus on the exciting things ahead. In 2024, we launched Wolves in the Classroom, our first major initiative. This virtual program brought conservation-focused learning directly to students across the country through live sessions, recorded content, and hands-on classroom materials. Together, we explored biodiversity, ecosystems, and the role wolves play in the natural world.
The response was overwhelming, in the very best way. By the end of the first semester, we had a waitlist. Educator feedback was incredible, with 100% saying they would recommend the program. Since launch, Wolves in the Classroom has reached more than 37,000 students nationwide.
It was everything we hoped for, and more. But it has also brought us to a difficult decision. As a volunteer-run organization, our capacity is real and limited. Running this program at scale is not sustainable without sacrificing other parts of our mission that we believe in just as deeply.
After long discussions and difficult reflection, we have made the decision to sunset Wolves in the Classroom at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. This decision was not made lightly. We are very proud of what this program accomplished, proud of our team, and grateful to every educator who trusted us with their students’ learning experience.
We never expected success to bring us to a point where we would have to let it go. But continuing would mean dismantling other parts of who we are, and that is not something we are willing to do. It is hard not to feel like we failed, but the truth is: Wolves in the Classroom did exactly what it was meant to do. It eliminated barriers, sparked curiosity, and empowered educators.
This was a hard call, but it was the right one. We are proud of what we built, proud of the impact, and ready for what comes next. With the foundation of Wolves in the Classroom behind us, we look to the future knowing the best is still ahead.
